• Q:

  Is the retrofit system a DIYY project? I have always had problems with speakers concerning static etc. Very poor AM reception even on my master station which I updated several years ago to a CD Player from a tape player

  A:

  All retrofit packages provide the correct materials for a DIY, but it comes down to the skill set of the homeowner if they can do it themselves.  A lot of homeowners do these projects themselves, and others hire electricians to do the retrofit for them.  Poor AM reception can be caused by an antenna wire not properly run into an attic, a loose antenna hook-up at the master station.  Poor AM reception can also be common among intercom systems due to their vulnerability of interference from high voltage wiring.

  I have a 6 wire set up what retrofit kit do I needI took one of the rooms speakers off and it has 6 wires connected

  A:

  For a 6-wire set up, you can replace you system with either a DMC1 system, or a Nutone NM200 system.  The sku 21025 would suffice for a system replacement.

  Does this system works with an existing Nutone IM-4006

  A:

  An NM200WH is designed to replace an IM-4006 because it is a 6-wire system.  Please see our packages for 4-10 rooms here.  We can also customize a package if other items are needed.

  We have an early 80s Rittenhouse whole house intercom system. Of course, they no longer exist and parts are not available. It would be nice to retrofit and upgrade. Anything possible? We are looking to sell in a couple of years, and this just makes the house look very dated no matter what we do. Thanks in advance.

• Q:

  I have a NuTone Music Intercom 3003 Series (4 rooms). I wish to ignore the cassette player but replace door bell, the individual room and the main intercom. Which of your products should I purchase?

  A:

  This product is ideal for what is necessary.  As long as all current room stations are roughly 6"w X 8"h and the current door speaker is a flush mount and only sticks out about a 1/2" and currently has a doorbell that rings throughout the system.  If any of this is untrue then we can customize a quote and email after a quick phone call.

• Q:

  I have an old 1980's Nutone Scovill 3-wire radio intercom system that's in bad need of updating. Is the NM100 Retrofit a good replacement for my system?

  A:

  The NM100 system works well for a 3-wire application.  Another system that works great is the Intrasonic RETRO model.  This system works off of a 3-wire to all stations including the door.  If all interior stations are roughly 6 inches wide and 8 inches high, this base system will work great.  If there are any larger room stations, it may help to call in for a customized quote.

• Q:

  I have a MDL. 3303. Does the retrofit system have the multi chimes feature. The current system gives me the options of different chimes and songs.

  A:

  All Nutone intercom systems have a 3 or 8 note chime.  They no longer offer different melody chime modules.  The 3 note chime comes standard in the packages, but we can customize the package if needed for the 8-note Westminster chime.

  Is this a replacement for a Nutone Scoville? If not what will work

  A:

  It can be a replacement for a Nutone Scoville but will depend upon your current model number or wiring of your unit.  This system is designed to work with a 3-wire set-up where a 3 conductor wire runs from each station back to the master and a 4 conductor wire from the door station back to the master.  If there is something different currently installed, please feel free to call in to discuss other options.  800-533-3249.

  We have a late 1980's Broan 4 wire intercom system. I do not have the model number, unfortunately all areas where it was marked are worn and not visible. Will this work for retrofit? Thanks

  The Nutone NM100 system can work for the Broan 4-wire system.  The kits that we put together are meant to replace older 3-wire Nutone intercom systems.  The NM100 can handle a 4-wire installation, but we would have to customize the quote for the same price before ordering.  If an order would like to be placed, please call 800-533-3249.  We would be happy to help.

  Yes, because you have a 3-wire intercom system, this would be the correct system to use to retro-fit.

  Can one of these stations be used for an outside patio. If not, how much additional is an outside station. Thank you

  The speakers in this kit are for inside room station only.  Patio stations can be purchased separatley which is a NPS103WH.  This requires a NF300PWH if it is recessed and a NRKS200PWH is it is surface mounted.

  I am installation a NM100WH intercom NUTONE, if necessary to use a transformer NA200TA or is possible connect direct to 120 vAC ?

  A:

  When you replace an existing system with the NM100WH, you need to replace the existing wall housing with the NWH300.  This housing comes with the NA300TA transformer.  You CANNOT connect 120 volt power directly to the NM100WH master.  In case you are not aware, all of the speakers have to be replaced unless you are replacing an existing NM100WH.

  when we purchased our house in 1973 we had the nutone 2065 installed. Two years ago it stopped working.I cannot find this model. Any suggestions.

  The Nutone 2065 needs to be replaced by either a Nutone NM100 retro fit system or an Intrasnoic RETRO system.  Both systems use the existing wiring and provide update frames so no dryawll patching was required.  If the kits provided do not match your system exactly, we can customize for you.

  I have a Nutone Model IM 4006. Can it be updated using existing wiring and speakers.

  The Nutone 4006 series can use the existing wiring, but all of the room, door, and patio speakers will be required to be replaced.  The Nutone NM200 and Intrasonic RETRO system are options for an update.  Patio speakers have to be added separately.

  I have a older Nutone IM-2003 4 unit model. Will the NM100 kit have everything I need to upgrade without updating wires?

  A:

  Hello, The NM100 kit should have everything you need to update your current 3-wire intercom system.  You should be able to use your existing wiring.  These systems generally used "home-run" wiring, which is a must for the new system as well.  The kit also has trim plates for the master, room stations and door speaker so that you will not need to do drywall patching.  The trim plates for the room stations measure 10"H X 7-1/2"W.  They will cover an opening left by an older Nutone speaker measuring 8" x 6".  If your room stations are larger you will need larger trim plates.  Thank you for the inquiry.

  Wondering what I need to replace the NuTone N2561/N2562.

  A:

  This model could be wired in two ways:  1) Home run - cable run from the master to each intercom station or 2) Looped - cable from the master to room station, then on to another room, etc.  The best way to determine the wiring method is to remove the screws that hold the master to the wall, fold it down and count the number of intercom cables coming into the back of the master.  if you have the same number as you have intercom stations, then your cables are home runs.  If you have fewer cables, your cables are looped.  A home run system can be replaced with a Nutone NM200, M&S DMC1 or Intrasonic RETRO model.  A looped system can only be replaced with a Valet System One.  We can help you determine the components that you need if you provide quantities and dimensions of the various stations.

  We do not sell any apartment style intercom system.  We only sell single family home intercom systems.

  Have but one model 2055-2056 with 9 speakers throughout hose I know it is old but can it be replaced using my speakers in the house? If so can I get someone to install unit

  A:

  We provide equipment for older Nutone systems.  The new systems require all component to be replaced including doors, rooms, patios, etc.  The 2055-2056 can be difficult because they can use looped wiring sometimes.  Please research your wiring and let us know if you can tell if the wiring is homerun.  Sometime the Intrasonic can work, but it is not always guaranteed.

  I have a NuTone Scovill model IMA-406. What system would you recommend as a direct replacement? Would like Pandora and possible XM capabilities. Thank you

  A:

  The best system to replace the IMA-406 with would be the Intrasonic RETRO series.  This system gives you the option for an iPod/MP3 doc and optional Bluetooth receiver that will allow you to stream Pandora or any internet radio through your smart phone, tablet, or laptop.  The Nutone replacement is a NM200 series which does not have any external source options.
